Job Description

Director of Public Relations Location Scottsdale, AZ (North Scottsdale area) :

Primary Purpose:

The Director of Public Relations is primarily responsible for developing and implementing Barrett-Jackson's communication strategy and media management. This person will oversee the company's public relations agencies and together engage our media base and develop new relationships by creating press materials and story lines that generate excitement and coverage for the brand.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Creates, coordinates and implements comprehensive public relations and communications strategies and plans.
  • Develops all written press materials and electronic press kits.
  • Responds to press and photo inquiries for the Barrett-Jackson brand, key executives and staff. This person will distribute the appropriate materials and arrange the necessary interviews which includes prepping the interviewee with the publication & article tone, interview topics and speaking points.
  • Creates community events and develops local media events to support them.
  • Develops key storylines and content that showcases the Barrett-Jackson brand on a local and national level as well as across the automotive, lifestyle and events communities.
  • Continues to build and engage our media base locally, regionally, nationally and internationally for both endemic and mainstream media.
  • Oversees influencer strategies, relationship development, and overall influencer campaign direction and portfolio management.
  • Manages the company's external agencies.
  • Manages on-site auction media activities including media credential approvals, on-site interview requests, media center logistics and set up, media check-in and credential distribution, live broadcast executions, organizing and executing multiple press conferences as needed, including the coordination of the interviewees, emcees and the AV needs.
  • Executes large-scale publicity events and photo opportunities that involve celebrities and VIP's.
  • Collaborates closely with Barrett-Jackson creative, marketing and digital teams to ensure cohesive vision.

Education and/or Experience:

  • 8+ plus years of experience in a communications or public relations at a large sports, racetrack, automotive and/or live event company or venue is required.
  • Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience in journalism, communications or public relations preferred.
  • Experience and knowledge of the automotive world is strongly recommended.
  • Experience working with public relation agencies, journalists and national/local media.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Spanish speaker a plus, but not required.
  • Deadline driven with excellent time management, multi-taking and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to listen, communicate, adapt and problem solve in stressful, time-sensitive situations.
  • Ability to manage external agencies & partners.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule including early mornings, evenings, weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to travel.
